Here’s a quick update on the strong/severe storms and winter weather threats today and Friday.

Summary

*   Strong storms with heavy rain and isolated areas of damaging winds are possible over middle Georgia between 10 AM and 6 PM today. A brief tornado is also possible.
*   Heavy rain will move out this afternoon with total rainfall of 0.5-1.5″ with amounts over 2″ likely in the NE mountains.
*   A Flash Flood Watch is in effect today for Rabun County.
*   Temperatures will plummet this afternoon and tonight with light snow expected as early as 3 PM this afternoon continuing tonight in far north and northeast Georgia with flurries possible over the rest of north Georgia.
*   Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 1 AM Friday.

*   Snow Flurries and Black Ice Possible Thursday Late Afternoon into Overnight
*   Snow amounts of less than 1″ possible in far north and northeast with up to 2″ at elevations above 2500 feet.
*   Gusty winds will create wind chill values of  25-35 this afternoon and 5-15 tonight and Friday.
*   Black ice from re-freezing of liquid water possible in sheltered areas tonight and Friday.
*   Temperatures will go above freezing area-wide mid-morning Saturday.

Impacts

*   No significant flooding expected but some creeks and rivers could approach bankfull.
*   No widespread severe weather expected.
*   Some slick roads are possible in the far north from light snow tonight
*   Isolated slick spots possible over much of north Georgia due to re-freezing (black ice) tonight and Friday.
