The Decatur Arts Alliance has collaborated with Decatur resident/electrician/artist Larry Holland to curate two pop-up art projects on N. McDonough related to the ongoing Solidarity/Black Lives Matter/Social Justice movement.
1. The two traffic signal boxes at either end of McDonough (one across from City Hall and the other near CSX/Agnes Scott) will be repainted as their expressions of the movement. The one across from City Hall will be painted by artist Fabian Williams – also known as The Occasional Superstar. The one near CSX and Agnes Scott by two artists Mario Daniel and Rod Ben.
2. A set of 25 #LookUpDecatur signs have been commissioned and sent out to a diverse group of artists including Black, White, Asian, Latino artists and others who will each have a sign that expresses their art related to the ongoing movement focusing more on the positive side and raising the conversation(s) around the issues. They will be placed on poles all along McDonough from Trinity to E. College.
